No Going Back

No Going Back

Once upon a time, some guy named Murphy wrote a law - and I've got a bone to pick with him...

Today, we said farewell to an incredible home, an apartment with a building as lovely as the people we've gotten to know within it. From incredible management, to beautiful courtyard and community room, to the social events where we've gotten to know a diverse and wonderful group of people.

We waited until today to ship out our computers to ensure that they would arrive after we do. $3,200 and 2.5 hours, and there's no going back, they're going to our new home. Payment for this was difficult as our bank prevents us from spending over $3,000 in a day, and they were closed for the day, so there was no reaching them to adjust the upper limit. Thankfully, it broke down into two shipments, one that we could pay outright, and another that we were able to put on the Tap-to-Pay credit card that we'd set up the day before. Crisis averted!

Emily did an incredible job as always, working on packing and clearing out the apartment, but as has been a running theme, things were still very down to the wire and we were stressed.
As if on queue, some of our neighbors who we've had the pleasure of becoming good friends with, came over and offered their help. Not only did they help bring things down to our car, but actually transferred any items we were going to donate to their van and offered to donate them in our stead.
On top of this, after our financial debacle with shipping, they were so kind as to bring us to dinner with some of our newfound time.

Next stop: the hotel.
Emily reserved this hotel a long while back, and the website said that pets were allowed.
Today, we learned that "pets" means "dogs."
They suggest another hotel "just around the corner" that was 20 minutes away while we're trying to remain in shuttle distance to the airport, so we got back to searching.
Emily finds a hotel that specifies that it allows both cats and dogs - perfect!
We drive to that hotel: "that's our other location that supports pets."
We drive to the other location: "we only allow dogs."
With only 1% battery remaining, GPS was no longer going to be an option, so we came back to stay with my family.

Today has me reflecting on how beautiful, fun, and essential community is. Our incredible community of friends, neighbors, and family is the only reason we're able to do any of this, and I am forever grateful for their love, support, encouragement, and willingness to help each step of the way.

We've loved our home here and we will miss it dearly. May we find and build community wherever we go and may we stay in touch with the incredible community of people we've gotten to know here. Thank you all for your warmth, kindness, and humor.

We certainly hope that we get to see you all again ❤️
