Happy New Year!

We want to wish everyone a very Happy New Years, and thank you dearly for joining us on our journey! We've been reflecting recently on how many incredible people we've been fortunate to have in our lives and are so grateful to be able to keep in touch with everyone in this age of technology.

We are grateful for the opportunity to venture out here and try out a different kind of life and see more of the world.

So what's next?

With the new year, our next steps start becoming available:

  • Shipping company has sent us the final form for shipping out our belongings
  • The computer repair shop evaluating my computer for UPS should become more available now that holiday retail is slowing down
    • I cannot overstate how excited I am to go forward with fixing my computer so that I can stop doing everything from a handheld device
  • We should be able to get someone to come fix the Washer/Dryer (post coming soon)
  • No longer taking care of neighbor's cat, opening up our schedule
  • We can go forward with getting registered at gemeente (municipality) without getting taxed for our savings since we'll be past the fiscal year
    • Once registered, we can...
    • Hit the KvK to start Emily's business (chamber of commerce)
    • Finish the DAFT application with the gemeente
    • Christopher can start applying to jobs

Life is about to get really busy, but really exciting!

But Christopher, I'm here to hear about how Netherlands celebrates New Years!

Truthfully, we didn't celebrate with the masses, so I can't tell you how it's different, but what I can tell you is that they LOVE fireworks.
Seriously, from our very own window, we could see 4 different sets of large fireworks.
It wasn't one at a time, either, it's a constant stream of fireworks from all of these places.
Nieuw Kerk (New Church) was having huge fireworks visible from where we were sitting on the couch of our neighbor's place, cozying up with the cat and watching a movie. Talk about magical! There also don't seem to be date restrictions, so the fireworks were not just all day, but all week, we're still hearing them regularly outside! Several people online have mentioned spending the new year's week out of the Netherlands just because of the excessive fireworks.

Thank you all again for being a part of this and keeping in touch with us, we hope you had a wonderful New Years, wish you and excellent new year, look forward to sharing more adventures, and leave you with some of the beautiful photos we've taken this week.

Nieuw Kerk had a light show for Sinter Klaas. These ran for a week leading up to the light show.
